A Second Opinion and a Third Dimension Lead to Treatment Success
How a mother’s instinct and a 3D scan led to a last-minute, non-extraction orthodontic plan in a 10-year-old patient.
Upon walking out of a new patient consultation, Dr. Dischinger found his front desk coordinator waiting for him – there was a mother in the waiting room who urgently needed to speak with him.
The mother and daughter were on their way to an oral surgeon for a scheduled extraction of the child’s maxillary canines, but the mother was having second thoughts.
She provided a print-out of a two-dimensional panoramic image that upon review, Dr. Dischinger concluded did not provide adequate diagnostic information for the prescribed treatment plan.
You’ll find:
- The 2D scans that led the child’s original dentist to prescribe the extraction of the maxillary lateral incisors (#7 and #10)
- The 3D scan and subsequent analysis that led Dr. Dischinger to a non-extraction treatment plan
- Progress updates of the successful 32-month long orthodontic treatment that resulted in an overjoyed mother and a daughter’s healthy smile
